Los Cerros News

This week Monica Lee was Caught Being Good!
Please come by the office for your prize. Who will be caught next?

From the Principal:
I want to thank all members of the community who recently voted yes on Measure C. The money generated by the continuation of the parcel tax will go far in supporting student services. Our teachers, parents and PTA representatives did a stellar job in phone banking and precinct walking and their energy assured all members of the community were able to make an informed vote. Thank you from all of us.

On Thursday, May 14th we'll have our Los Cerros Open House beginning at 7pm. This is a fun evening where you get to see the classrooms and meet the teachers that your student spends time with each day.

Also that evening you will notice a bus parked along the front of the school. Measure J, Traffic Congestion reduction project, will have a bus here for parents to see. We are also organizing a parent question and answer evening with the Traffix (Measure J) representative, Aram Boyd. Please look for that information in the next few days.

Enjoy your weekend and again thank you for your support, Phyllis Roach

Happy hiking!! Mrs. Shetterly and Mrs. Charley

CONGRATULATIONS TO LC STUDENT Heather Baine!
in July, Heather is representing our state Region 7 ( CA, NV, Hawaii) at Lamplight, Illinois for the National Dressage Equitation Medal Finals. Basically , dressage is about training a horse to do ballet and equitation means how the rider sits in a balanced position on the horse. Her big sis, Courtney Baine, graduated from Los Cerros last year competed at the dressage version of the Junior Olympics and represented California on the first ever Junior team to bring home a bronze medal at 14.  Her older teammates in the Young Rider division 16-21 brought the gold medal back to CA. On her team were 3 Contra Costa residents and on the older team was another local resident. Los Cerros has produced the largest number of successful riders in the state.  Horses always need to be cleaned, fed and exercised and there are so many opportunities for tweens, just ask Heather , 6th grader at school.

INDEPENDENT PE

The San Ramon Valley Unified School District will be phasing out Independent Study PE at middle school level, beginning with 6th graders in September 2009. If you have a 7th or 8th grader who is interested in doing Independent Study PE for the 2009-2010 school year the application is due at the SRVUSD office no later than August 4, 2009.

8th GRADE PROMOTION PARTY – Saturday, June 6th, 2009
It’s getting closer... just 30 days to go until The Great Party on June 6th!  And the good news is that 8th graders should have received their invitations today at lunch time which means you now know the theme for this year.  It’s going to be fantastic; the decorations have to be seen to be believed!

So, on to appeals and important details!

   •    To donate bendable plastic PIPES, contact Kym Hough at webmaster@staged-to-sell.com.

   •    To lend colorful, crazy CLOTHING and ACCESSORIES for Photo Booth props, contact Shelby Fautt at 640-4805 or sfautt@fautthomes.com.

   •    To HELP set-up on Friday, 5th June (between 3:00 and 9:00 p.m.), and anytime on Saturday, 6th, contact Benita Smiley at bhsmiley@comcast.net. Your child’s grade level is NOT important; having lots     of wonderful adult volunteers is (no students please)!

   •    To make sure your CHILD’S PICTURE is on the party’s Photo Wall, bring a recent photo of them (4” x 6” or 5” x 7”) with their name on the reverse, to the school office.

Also note the following information...

   •    Don’t forget we’ll be serving up great FOOD as well as lots of FUN on the night of the party!

   •    If your student needs to ARRIVE LATE to the party just let us know ahead of time and we’ll make arrangements to let them in.

Thank you.

PTA LEGISLATIVE REP:
I would like to thank all of our school community for banding together in support of Measure C.  If not for the hard work of many parents, teachers, staff and even students we could not have done this.  Our voice in support of our schools was heard, let us now get down to what's most important ~ educating our children.   Laurie Stark
