Room 5 - Monday, February 9 from 2:45 to 4:00pm.
Parents are invited to drop by Mr. Abers¹ room after school to see the results of our current project:  Chemical Criminals.  Students spent the first week of the assignment performing lab tests that eliminated various suspects so they could identify the "criminal."  Afterwards students have been working in groups to create a story of their choice that represents the data from the project.  A lot of imagination was used when picking stories!  A large display board made by each group shows the story, lab results and conclusion and is decorated using the group¹s imagination and interest.  Come take a look at your son or daughter¹s creative work!!

PTA NEWS
School buses are coming to Los Cerros!  Measure J is an existing tax that will be used to fund school buses for several schools, one of  which is Los Cerros.  The school district has asked that each school that will be affected by Measure J please provide one parent representative to serve on a Community Advisory Committee (CAC) to represent Los Cerros' interests, and act as a liaison between our parent community and the CAC.   It is important that Los Cerros has input on routes, stops, pick-up times, etc.  This is our chance to have a say in how the bus system will work to serve our children.

The meetings will be held once per quarter eventually, but in the beginning may be held more frequently until things are in place. They will be held at the Town of Danville's office on La Gonda Way and will probably be around 4:30 p.m. for 1 to 1.5 hrs.

If you are interested, please contact Jennifer Walsh at Jenniferwalsh@comcast.net.  This will be a PTA appointed position.  Thank you.

School loop – please note that counseling activities and interventions are now posted on Ms. Schubb school loop website as well as several helpful documents.

Academic

We will be starting 7th & 8th grade students' "blue folder" meetings the week of 2/2/09. Please check Ms. Schubb's website on school loop for specific dates/classes.  These meetings are intended to involve your student in their academic success by reviewing academic records (i.e. STAR tests, transcripts etc) and helping them move towards high school and beyond.

Students will be asked for 6 choices in order of priority, and 8th graders will be given priority. Please also note that if your student signs up for a yearlong elective, they will be expected to uphold that commitment.  We ask for your support of the counseling department staff in understanding we will do our very best to assure your student is scheduled for their top choice(s), but elective availability is subject to funding, physical space and scheduling complexities.

Organization Bootcamp will be offered beginning 2/10/09.  Class size is limited and students will be placed based on number of missing assignments, grades, and teacher recommendation. A mandatory parent meeting will be held Monday, 2/9/09 from 7-7:30pm.  If you would like to submit your student’s name, please email Ms. Schubb, being sure to indicate “bootcamp” in the subject heading.  nschubb@srvusd.net
