STAR TESTING
STAR Testing at Los Cerros will be next week Tuesday May 5th, Wednesday May 6th, and Thursday May 7th.  Parents, please plan in advance to ensure students will be on time and in attendance on these dates.  All STAR Testing will take place in the morning and students will attend school all day.  If you have any questions about STAR Testing, please contact Mike Cannon at

SPRING PHOTOS
The Lifetouch photo packets have been distributed to all students during lunch. All were asked to bring home to parents.  These packets are paid for differently than the Fall photos.  You may purchase individual sheets or the complete packet- just return the unwanted photos with a check.  There is a box in the front office to return photos or purchase by May 1st

CJSF UPDATES

  • Tuesday, May 5th  CJSF meeting 2:35 MPR
  • Discovery Kingdom trip:  The buses will leave after 1st period on May 8th and will return at 6:30 p.m. Flyers will be distributed for the field trip at the May 5 meeting. 
  • CJSF Honors Luncheon will be on Friday, May 22nd.  Students who have been in CJSF for three consecutive semesters will be eligible to attend. Forms will be distributed at the May 5 meeting for those who qualify.
  • If you have not contributed a towel for the animal humane shelter, please bring it to Room 1 and sign your name. Thank you to all who have contributed towels to the animal shelter and to Tuffie Animal Rescue- they are very appreciative! Thank you to Lynn Green and Cheryl Williamson for delivering the towels.


INDEPENDENT PE

The San Ramon Valley Unified School District will be phasing out Independent Study PE at middle school level, beginning with 6th graders in September 2009. If you have a 7th or 8th grader who is interested in doing Independent Study PE for the 2009-2010 school year the application is due at the SRVUSD office no later than August 4, 2009.

Great America Chaperones Needed - If you would like to chaperone the 8th grade trip to Great America on Thursday, June 11th, please contact Mike Cannon at
mcannon@srvusd.net or 552-3464.  The trip will leave Los Cerros around 8 am and return to Los Cerros around 4 pm.  There is no cost for chaperones, we are looking forward to a great trip. 

6th GRADE YOSEMITE NEWS
Attention all students going to Yosemite: 

  • Sunday, May 10th, meet at Los Cerros promptly at 10:30 am.  Busses leave at 11am.
  • Wednesday, May 13th student leave Yosemite by 11:30am and arrive back at the Los Cerros parking lot late afternoon/early evening (4-5 pm, depending on traffic).
  • Be sure you are getting lots of exercise and preparing to hike five miles every day. 
  • If you have new shoes, break them in at home, wearing them enough to prevent blisters.

8th GRADE PROMOTION PARTYSaturday, June 6th, 2009

We need PIPES ~ lots of bendable plastic (PVC) pipes, the longer the better!  Can’t say too much about what they will be used for but it’s going to be great, so please let us know if you have any to spare. Contact Kym Hough at webmaster@staged-to-sell.com.

We need PROPS ~ hats, scarves, feather boas, glasses, capes, jackets... the crazier the colors, the better! These items can also be taken to the office and will be returned to you after the party  if you put your name on them. Contact Shelby Fautt at 640-4805 or sfautt@fautthomes.com with questions.

We need PHOTOS ~ a recent shot of your 8th grader; 4" x 6" or 5" x 7" is perfect! Write your child’s name on the reverse and bring the photo to the photo collection box in the school office ready for it to go up on the Photo Wall at the party.

We need PEOPLE ~ offer to help with or at the party. We will be busy with set-up both on Friday, 5th June, from 3:00 to 9:00 p.m., and all day on Saturday, 6th. Contact Benita Smiley at     bhsmiley@comcast.net. All grade level parents are welcome.

We need to let you know that...

  • Party invitations will be handed out during 8th grade lunch on Thursday next week (5/7).
  • If your student has a conflict with another event on the night of the party, they can still come. Just let us know they will be arriving late and we’ll make arrangements to let them in to join in the fun!

DANVILLE PARADE
Want to lead the Danville 4th of July Parade?  The theme for 2009 is CELEBRATING OUR YOUTH and they need 1,000 or more kids to be among the First people in the parade.  Everyone 17 years and under is welcome to participate.  Dress up and ride your decorated bike, scooter, razor, rollerblades, skateboards....and helmet.  To sign up or for more information visit:  www.kiwanis-srv.org/parade.asp

DANVILLE GIRLS CHORUS AUDITIONS

NATIVE AMERICAN INDIAN ANTIQUE AND ART SHOW
One of the best small Native American shows will be held Saturday, May 16 from 10-6 and Sunday, May 17 from 10-4 at the Alamo Women's Club, 1401 Danville Blvd, Alamo.  The show will feature Native American artists making and selling their traditional arts including new and antique baskets, fetishes, totem poles, pottery, antique weapons


Sports at Los Cerros
Track - Track information will be given out at all lunches.  Track is co-ed and for all grade levels.  Practices will be April 30th and May 7th on the blacktop with Mr. Abers.  All meets will be at Cal High School.  Please contact Mike Cannon at mcannon@srvusd.net or 552-3464 if you have any questions.
Counselor’s Corner

Parents, as we approach the last 30 (approximately) days of the school year, it is particularly important that you keep your student on their regular schedule. Make sure they continue writing down assignments in their planner, getting enough sleep and scheduling time for homework, studying and down time.

SUMMER SCHOOL

6th/7th grade parents – If your student received a D or an F 1st semester, summer school will be at Iron Horse Middle School 6/19-7/17/09 so that you can adjust your summer schedules.

8th grade parents - if your students received an F 1st semester, or finishes the school year with an F, Venture summer school will be required for remediation. Summer school is 6/19-7/31 and only TWO F's can be remediated.  Even IF students are going to re-take their math class, they still have to remediate in summer school.

Career

May 11-13, Ms. Schubb will be spending time in PE with the 7th & 8th grade students going through the “Life after Middle School” workbooks.  These workbooks were generously donated by our PTA and should be coming home with your student by the end of that week.

Did you know you can purchase a book for the library to honor your student or a teacher here at Los Cerros?

Just click on the links on the library web page, choose the book you would like to donate. Purchase it from Amazon or send a check made out to Los Cerros Middle School (please indicate your selection if you have one), then once the book is here we will process it for our students to use and place a book plate in the book honoring your donation. http://library.lcms.srvusd.k12.ca.us  If you want to help, ask questions, or comment please contact Ms. Davis at ddavis@srvusd.net.
